Olympics 2012 Badminton: Lin Dan Triumphs Again, Heartbreak for Malaysia

It was the battle for the badminton ages. The world's best two badminton players in the world China's Lin Dan and Malaysia's Lee Chong Wei faced each other again at the Olympic 2012 Badminton Singles Final, in a repeat of the 2008 Beijing Olympics final 4 years ago. Back then, Lin Dan bossed Chong Wei around and won easily, giving the shattered Malaysian a torrid time.

Unbeatable
This time, a fired up Lee Chong Wei put up a much better performance, at time matching  the fearsome Lin Dan stroke for stroke, smash for smash. But it still was not enough to knock out the defending champion, as the Chinese shuttler won 15-21, 21-10, 21-19.

Maybe he should not retire just yet...
I must admit, the final set was really a nail biting affair, with the points going touch and go until the end. At one stage, it actually seemed that Chong Wei would finally end the gold medal draught for Malaysia when he led 18-16. But Lin Dan broke Malaysian hearts when he levelled, and went ahead and finally secured the winning gold medal point when Chong Wei hit long.

Lin Dan had proven that he is THE greatest badminton player of ALL time. There is no more doubt about it. He is simply the best ever.

As for Chong Wei, he can stand tall and proud. He gave it his all and had matched the best player in the world blow for blow. He can now choose to retire (as he indicated earlier) with his head held high.

Badminton: I AM THE MASTER!

World No. 1 Malaysian player Lee Chong Wei proved once again that he is currently the best player in the world and truly a master of the game when he trounced Peter Gade 21-11, 21-7 in a one sided final at the Indonesian Open.

Gade simply had no answer to Chong Wei's perfect attacking game, as sharp cross court and sideline smashes whizzed past him.

Chong Wei was almost merciless as he took the final from Gade in less than 40 minutes.

A dejected Gade said: "I could do nothing more against him today. With his variation of shots and his speed, I just had no answer. Chong Wei was just too good for me..."

"Rarely you see Peter give up on the court. But today it was a rare occasion to see him doing so. I have so much respect for him as a fighter on the court. He never gives up whatever the score," said a happy Chong Wei.

This is Chong Wei's 6th title for 2011, having played in seven finals.

With the World Championships just around the corner, surely the Malaysian is the odds-on favorite to become world champ for the first time.

Will the pressure get to Chong Wei as it did in the past? All badminton fans around the world will wait with bated breath!

Badminton: The Chong Wei Express Keeps on Going!

The current best badminton player in the world, Lee Chong Wei has done it yet again. He took on a game and wily Peter Gade in the Indian Open 2011 final, and triumphed in three hard fought games.

Lee, who previously had not won in India before this, and fresh from his recent victory at the All England, solidified his position as the world number 1. On current form, he certainly looks unbeatable.

Hopefully this would give Chong Wei enough confidence and self-belief to enable him to grab a gold medal at the upcoming World Championships. The only man capable of stopping Lee? Why, that would be none other than current world champ Lin “Super” Dan, who is arguably the best player of all time. I can imagine these two clashing in the final of the Worlds. Man, it prmises to be a cracking game!

2011's Clash of the Badminton Titans- Lee Chong Wei vs Lin Dan

World Number 1 Lee Chong Wei is on course to face his arch nemesis, Lin Dan, who is widely regarded as the world’s best player ever, at the All England Badminton Championships 2011.

Lee Chong Wei vs...

...Lin Dan

It will surely be another almighty clash between the two rivals, who have battled each other countless of times through the years. The great Lin Dan has so far managed to prevail in the majority of their matches, including the Korean Open final this year, where “Super Dan” won in a hard fought match against Chong Wei 21-19, 14-21, 21-16.

So far in the All England, Chong Wei, who is the defending champ, has charged into the semifinals, easily crushing the dangerous Bao Chunlai 21-16, 21-16. Lin Dan is also on course for a showdown with Lee when he took out the old warhorse Wong Choong Hann 21-14, 21-17.
Who will win when Lee takes on Lin? Will Lee show the world that he is not the second best World No. 1? Will Lin Dan prove that he is indeed the best ever?

The odds are against Lee Chong Wei, but the Malaysian Number 1 might pull off an upset if he plays the correct game against Lin Dan. Anyway, we’ll just have to wait and see this weekend!
